What Are The Technical Standards For Projected Capacitive Touchscreens?

2021-09-15

With the projected capacitive touchscreens has become more and more popular. So now people have relatively high technical standards for capacitive touch. So what are our general technical standards for capacitive touch screens?

What Are The Technical Standards For Projected Capacitive Touchscreens?

Projected Capacitive Touchscreens

1) Accuracy Of Projected Capacitive Touchscreens:

99% accuracy. The touch accuracy of the capacitive touch screen is relatively high. Because it is induced by human body current. So as long as your finger touches gently, the capacitive touch screen can work. It is not like a resistive touch screen .We need to presse it to let it work. If you don’t press enough pressure, he may not respond.

2) Material:

Completely scratch-resistant glass material, not easy to be scratched and abraded by sharp objects. Not affected by common pollution sources. Such as water, fire, radiation, static electricity, dust or oil. It also has the eye protection function of goggles.

3) Sensitivity Of Projected Capacitive Touchscreens:

Generally, the sensitivity of a projected capacitive touchscreens is less than two ounces of force to sense, and a quick response of less than 3ms.

4) Clarity:

Three surface treatments (Polish, Etch, Industrial) are available. The MTBF of the SMT controller is greater than 572,600 hours (per MILHANDBOOK-217-F1).

5) Touch Life:

Any point can withstand more than 50 million touches, and the cursor will not drift after one calibration.

Capacitive touch technology

Capacitive touch technology is a touch technology that uses changes in capacitance generated when a finger approaches the capacitive touch panel. It has two important capacitance parameters. One is the sensing capacitance between the finger and the upper sensing material (such as ITO). The second is the parasitic capacitance between the sensing material (such as the upper and lower layers of ITO) or between the sensing material and the optical panel (such as ITO and LCD).

Parasitic capacitance occurs between conductors. When the finger conductor approaches the sensing conductors of different voltages, the induced capacitance changes will also occur. The capacitive sensing effect is how it works with a larger parasitic capacitance value (30 pico Farad; pF). A small change in sensing capacitance of 0.1 to 2 pF units is detected.

Capacitive touch technology is relatively stable and highly reliable. With the human body, the body is the characteristic of a capacitor. The capacitance change generated when the touch panel is touched achieves the sensing touch effect. Christopher Ard, director of marketing at Atmel, pointed out that the sensor design can be a single-sided ITO pattern for the lowest functional interface. For example, we use single touch points in applications such as large virtual buttons and sliders. However, the more common implementation is a two-layer design (separate X and Y layers), which requires more complex performance and accuracy.
